The recommended daily dose of Clomipramine Hydrochloride is 2 to 4 mg/kg/day (0.9 -1.8 mg/lb/day). The following chart can be used as reference:

More Dosing Considerations

Mizner Bioscience’s Clomipramine Hydrochloride tablets can be administered as a single daily dose or divided twice daily based on the patient’s response and/or tolerance of the side effects.
It may be prudent to initiate treatment in divided doses to minimize side effects by permitting tolerance of side effects to develop or allowing the patient time to adapt if tolerance does not develop.
To reduce the incidence of vomiting that may be experienced by some dogs, Clomipramine Hydrochloride Tablets may be given with a small amount of food.

Palatability & Compliance

Mizner Bioscience’s Clomipramine Hydrochloride tablets were designed to be palatable to dogs. The chewable tablet contains natural beef flavoring to support acceptability. Because it does contain natural beef flavoring, that should be taken into consideration if the pet is allergic to beef or on a food trial.

For canine medications, it is assumed that many instances of treatment failure can be attributed to poor compliance.¹ Sources of poor tolerability or inconvenience include the need to force a pill down the animal’s throat or consistently hide the pill in cheese or other food due to poor palatability—

factors which may create hardship for the owner and damage the relationship with the pet.

Efficacy & Safety

Dose Establishment Trial:
12-week, placebo-controlled, multi-site clinical trial was conducted to establish an effective dose of clomipramine hydrochloride tablets in dogs.

2-4 mg/kg/day in conjunction with behavioral modification (desensitization and counterconditioning) was more effective than behavior modification alone in reducing the signs of separation anxiety in dogs.

Efficacy Trial:
An 8-week, placebo-controlled, multi-site clinical trial, was conducted to test the efficacy of clomipramine hydrochloride tablets at 2 – 4 mg/kg/day given either once daily or divided twice daily.

Dogs receiving clomipramine hydrochloride showed significant improvement in resolving signs of separation anxiety when tested against behavioral modification alone (desensitization and counterconditioning).

After 1 week on trial, 47% of dogs receiving clomipramine hydrochloride tablets once or twice (divided dose) daily in conjunction with behavioral modification showed clinical improvement, compared to 29% of dogs receiving behavioral modification alone.
